XLarge Wineglass
a wine glass for special moments
Glass occurs in nature, it is nothing more than a "solidified liquid" that forms after certain minerals, mainly quartz sand, melt due to a sudden increase in temperature - see lightning strike, volcanic eruption or impact of a meteorite - followed by re-compaction. The history of glass and the transformation of glass masses began several millennia ago, but the story we tell you today is linked to a small glassworks and its initiation of X-Glass.
Austria has become a land of glass and crystal in recent decades, thanks to important names that created their first collection of tasting glasses in the 1970s. A thorough knowledge of the material, in this case wine and crystal, are the basis for design that favors rounded corners and narrow to wide openings. All summarized in the form of a universal glass, suitable for all wines, including sparkling wines, as the symbol letter "X" - multiple choice reminds us, which in Italian translates as "X all wines".
The glass must be the mirror of the wine, "feel" the territory and in this case, with its just over 90 grams, almost disappear while being crossed by the echoes of the elements. Each glass is unique, hand-crafted from a mixture of minerals in which barium replaces lead. A team of eight specialized craftsmen work in the factory to produce an average of 300 glasses a day: the most difficult step, reveals, is creating the base, i.e. the bottom, by hand after pulling the stem.
Lightness, versatility and resistance. Three adjectives that add up, even multiply, to the experience of mixing with wine and its banquet.
Having relaunched in 2013, we haven't heard much about X Glass yet, but if it's true that the end justifies the means, we know we're in for the subtlety that makes for sublime drinking in verse.
